Watch System & Watch Areas
Watch System
Long-term crises may develop after a failure to communicate essential emergency information to key stakeholders. To minimize the impact of this occurring, a Watch System to alert core services and departments has been developed. The Emergency Watch Team (EWT), managed by the ED, is responsible for managing the Watch System.
Watch Areas
If the incident represents a potential campus emergency, the ED will activate the EWT and instruct them to activate their emergency watch procedures. The EWT watch procedures consist of the following:
- identification of critical systems and monitoring methodologies;
- identification of persons to facilitate access to resources;
- watch area call tree to include the ED;
- identification of shared resources (e.g., shelter, electrical vaults, tunnels, gas mains, communications, supplies);
- inventory of shared resources;
- coordinated emergency plans with other Watch Areas; and
- annual testing of the WA emergency plan.
The following table depicts the areas that comprise the campus Watch Areas (note: the purpose of the chart is to define boundaries, not to be an exhaustive listing). These areas were chosen to reflect their dependence on similar infrastructure, shared sheltering resources, or shared threats.
