Priorities

To ensure that the University’s Emergency Management Plan meets the needs of the organization and the community it serves, the following priorities have been set:

  1. assistance for injured personnel;
  2. safety of students, faculty, and staff;
  3. mitigation of damage, including the safety and protection of research animals;
  4. communication with University constituencies and downstream customers (e.g., University of Chicago Medical Center); and
  5. recovery and restoration of academic and research operations.

To achieve these priorities, the following are of critical concern:

  1. emergency utility shutoffs and repairs;
  2. emergency power;
  3. emergency shelter;
  4. emergency notifications and communications;
  5. emergency transportation; and
  6. emergency food service.
