Appendix 6: Influenza Pandemic Preparedness & Response Plan
University Bioterrorism Alert Matrix
In response to the WHO Influenza Pandemic Response Alert Phases and in consultation with the Illinois Department of Public Health, the University has established the following alert matrix for our PIPBRP (see Table 2).
Table 2: University Outbreak Alert Matrix
Definition of Response Levels
Alert Level I: Corresponds with a need for increased detection effort; for example, the University or the University of Chicago Medical Center (UCMC) receives notice from a credible source (e.g., CDC, WHO, IDPH, CDPH) about an outbreak.
Alert Level II: The global likelihood of the outbreak increases without evidence for an imminent local occurrence; for example, case(s) of disease in locations other than the Chicago area.
Alert Level III: Cases of disease can be reasonably and imminently anticipated at the UCMC; for example, case(s) of disease are reported in the Chicago metropolitan area but not at UCMC.
Alert Level IV: Case(s) or suspected cases of disease reported at the University or UCMC.
