Appendix 6: Influenza Pandemic Preparedness & Response Plan
Command Authority
Upon activation of this plan, the Vice-President for and Chief Financial Officer or designee assumes the role of Incident Commander for the University. If the University’s outbreak is expected to result in a large influx of patients, the University of Chicago Medical Center (UCMC) will be contacted and asked for assistance by implementation of their emergency plan, which may require them to activate a Code Triage Phase I or Phase II. The Code Triage Phases are the processes by which patients are evaluated and treated by UCMC. The UCMC’s emergency plan authorizes their Senior Administrator-on-Call (AOC) to determine which components of the Code Triage Plan to activate. The Senior AOC for the UCMC will be the authority implementing the UCMC response, with the assistance of the Section Chiefs, Adult Emergency Medicine, and the Director of the Infection Control Program who together will determine measures needed to manage the influx of patients to the UCMC.
