Emergency Management Plan (EMP)
Revised August 2007
This is the University of Chicago’s plan for responding to and recovering from University-wide emergencies. Recognizing the impracticality of developing and maintaining plans for every possible emergency, this Emergency Management Plan (EMP) provides general guidelines for responding to emergency events: activating decision processes, gathering decision-makers, and marshalling resources to address University-wide emergencies.
Definition of Emergency
A University-wide emergency is defined as an unplanned event that (1) poses a serious threat to persons or property, as well as significantly disrupts normal operations; (2) cannot be managed by routine response; and (3) requires a quick and coordinated response across multiple departments or divisions.
